MS Dhoni was fined 50 per cent of his match fee following a shocking outburst against the umpires during the last over of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur on Thursday.

In the last over Ben Stokes bowled a high full toss. But while umpire ruled it a no-ball, the other said it was a legal delivery and ruled him out. Immediately, the on-field batsmen Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner got into a on-field argument with the umpires.

Soon, MS Dhoni stormed on to the field and got into the verbal tussle. He was somehow calmed and sent back. Santner then hit the last ball for a six to secure victory for Chennai in what turned out to be a yet another controversial match.

Chennai were chasing 153 in the match, but soon found themselves at 24 for 4 before fifties from Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu brought them back on track, and Santner finished off the Royals. Earlier, Rajasthan again struggled to put up a decent score on the board after Jos Buttler's cameo. Steve Smith in particular was sluggish with 15 from 22 balls.

Post the match, an IPL release said Dhoni admitted to breaching the tournament's Code of Conduct. "MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings captain, was fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League's (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team's match against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur."

"Mr Dhoni admitted to the Level 2 offence 2.20 of the IPL's Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction," the release added.

Intriguingly, there was no question asked to Dhoni about his outburst at the post-match presentation.
