Two former IPL champions Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will square off in match number 14 of the Indian Premier League at Dubai on Friday. CSK are in an unfamiliar situation having lost two out of three, and are currently at the bottom of the points table. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, registered their first win against Delhi Capitals after losing their initial two games.

Chennai began their IPL 2020 campaign on an impressive note, defeating defending champs Mumbai in the tournament opener. Since though, they have slipped miserably against Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. Their batting is yet to come together. Apart from Faf du Plessis, no one has displayed any sort of consistency. The opening pair of Murali Vijay and Shane Watson has let the team down even as MS Dhoni’s batting slot remains a matter of conjecture.

CSK need to show significant improvement in their bowling as well. Pacer Deepak Chahar and all-rounder Sam Curran have done their job. However, left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja has been woefully out of form while the other slow bowler Piyush Chawla has blown hot and cold.

Shifting focus to Sunrisers, they lost from a winning position against Royal Challengers Bangalore before being swept aside by KKR. But, they came back well to stun Delhi. The fact that skipper David Warner and opener Jonny Bairstow succeeded as a pair would have pleased the side for it often delivers positive returns for the franchise. The impressive return of Kane Williamson made the massive difference, and proved what SRH had been missing in the previous games.

In the bowling department, leggie Rashid Khan’s return to form was a big plus as he ran through the batting with three wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T. Natarajan also came up with highly impressive efforts in the team’s win.

Head-to-Head Record: CSK hold a significant advantage over SRH if one goes by the head-to-head record, having won nine and lost three.
